Travel to the Amazon in Colombia

Travel to the Amazon in Colombia and enjoy an experience that will allow you to be part of an indigenous Amazonian community. There you will learn the importance of happiness, well-being and family union, above the material.

Get to know first-hand the cultural and environmental importance the Amazon has for the rest of the world.  This is a sustainable tourism alternative to large agencies. It’s based in the indigenous village 7 de Agosto, also known as the “last corner of Colombia,” a few hours away from Leticia.

In addition to its role in educating visitors and protecting the region’s environment, the project prides itself on helping use tourism to support the local people of the community and their indigenous guides.

Why choose this experience?
  • This experience is a project created and led by the natives of the community, with a focus on sharing the unique experiences that the nature and culture of the Amazon offer.
  • Unique opportunity to experience daily life in the Amazon and interact with the jungle, the river, and the village, learning from the people that have coexisted with their setting for centuries.
  • Daytime hikes, with a focus on observing plants and wildlife, and learning about the historic and current practical and medicinal uses of certain species;
  • After-dark hikes to look for nocturnal animals and insects (frogs, spiders, insects, snakes, and more);
  • Daytime boat rides and observation of pink and grey river dolphins, monkeys, parrots and birds, sloths, and more;
  • After-dark boat rides to search for black and white caimans;
  • Trip to the border of Colombia and Perú and nearby lakes;
  • Fishing for piranhas and other species (catfish, bocachico, cucha, etc.), using a variety of fishing techniques (rod, net, and even by hand);
  • A cooking class to learn how to prepare a traditional amazonian dish;
  • Swimming in the river and lakes.

How to arrive from Bogota:
  1. The only way is to take a flight to Leticia, the capital of the Amazon.
  2. From there you will take a boat (around 3 hours) to Caballococha.
  3. In Caballococha our host will be waiting for you to take a ride to the community.
  • Take into account that Caballococha is in Peru, but the community is actually in Colombia.  You will be exactly on the border.
  • It is also possible to arrive from Manaos, Brazil or Iquito Peru.
